Miskolc National Theatre votes for environmental awareness!

As of season 2019/2020 Miskolc National Theatre commits itself to be not only the first hungarian permanent theatrical establishment but to become the first environmentally aware theatrical institution, a so called eco-aware theatre in Hungary.

Recently the Town Municipality of Miskolc opted for the theatre management and the artistic board, for another five years period of time. This new period will provide an opportunity to participate in important social activities and to change attitudes related to these, since we would like to go on being trail-blazers and exemplaries, besides persisting to represent a high level of artistic standards.

Certainly such an enormous undertaking starts with small steps, we wish to lay the foundations of the program and carry out the first strides. Following an expansive study, our aim is to find solutions in all levels of theatrical operations that will form us into a 'green' establishment.

For this open project we launch a call for joining forces, anyone can come up with an idea, let this be a new, more effective method, or a financial or material support by which this theatre - one of the largest theatrical institutions of the country - can become more efficient and environmental-friendly in the next months and years.

During this summer we contacted companies, funds, organisations and devoted artists that can contribute to making measures in eco-awareness.

Our plan is to cooperate with local organisations and manufacturers, to build up water saving systems, to emphasize recycling and reuse, may it be waste management or reuse of sets and costumes.

We will make efforts to use renewable energy sources, additionally, our ensemble intends to take part in green activities like tree plantings, crop harvestings, etc.

Our aim is to set a model to all theatres in Hungary to act together for the Audience of the Future.
